On Saturday, August 20th, I had the pleasure of attending the Chicago Music Festival, in Douglas Park. This has been the best festival I’ve attended this summer.  I’m a Westside native, but had no idea how huge Douglas Park was.  As I walked up, you could just feel the love and peace of families from all across the city, enjoying, and having a great time. From the MC and radio personality Ramonski Love of V103 keeping the crowd live, to singer Krystal Metcalfe giving people the Holy Ghost with her soulful vocals. As the festival continued on, the line up just got better and better.  From a performance from The Voice contestant Mark Hood, to the empowering poetry of K Love the Poet, I knew that this fest just got real.  I began to look around and interact with the families and just ask parents and children what did they like most about the festival. A lot of the families said that this was a festival where they can enjoy and bring their kids, and just have a good time. I agree. Everyone was on cloud nine, in fact, cloud 10, that the dark cloud and rain could’nt stop the show.  One of the highlights of the evening was a special performance by Do or Die. I think If they had of gave me a shot, I would of took the mic and rapped every lyric to “Po Pimpin”..<side eye>.  Then after a brief intermission, Kelly Price comes out, singing hit after hit. If that’s not enough, here comes Slick Rick and MC Lyte stealing the show.  All of this in the heart of Douglas Park. I’m not sure if I could thank Alderman Scott and his lovely Wife Natashe enough for bringing the communities together and creating memories and an epic experience for families.  A special thanks to them, and also a million thanks to to PR star Jada Russell for letting us cover this festival. I’m already looking forward to the next one..
